It’s based on the Valjoux 7750, although it has an extended power reserve bringing it up to 60-hours. However, there’s also another chronograph seconds hand that points towards a peripheral tachymeter and pulsometer, allowing you to calculate speed and pulse rate. This side of the watch effectively functions as an exhibition caseback, revealing the inner workings of the movement including the rotor and perlage finishing. Twisting the body of the Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III reveals its second face. Colour-wise, it’s a combination of silvery-white, anthracite grey and blue, which are familiar colours in the Jazzmaster range as the standard chronograph is available in each of those colours individually. There’s also a day-date complication with an open date wheel visible beneath the subdials. The primary dial displays the main chronograph function with central hours, minutes, chronograph seconds and subdials for seconds, 30-minute timer and 12-hour timer. This new version features a 44mm diameter case in stainless steel and consists of a peripheral section with lugs, pushers and crown and an inner portion that can be rotated on a horizontal axis. The Face-2-Face is its spiritual successor. This won’t come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Hamilton’s history because at one time they actually had the licence for the Reverso from JLC and produced an exact replica called the Otis. This is the third edition of the Face-2-Face model, which is Hamilton’s answer to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso in that it features two dials on either side of a reversible watch body. Despite a name that youths of today would describe as “cringe”, the Jazzmaster is one of Hamilton’s most diverse ranges and leans in a more refined direction than Hamilton’s typical tool watch fare. The back of each movement is visible next to the dial of the opposite one, and skeletonized rotors give a nearly unrestricted view of the workings beneath so you can admire an oscillating balance wheel while checking the time.
Separate movements drive each side of the Face 2 Face (ETA 2094 for the chronograph, ETA 2671 for the time-only side) so the timepiece can double as a dual-time-zone traveler. While we’ve seen dual-face watches before, none have done it quite like this, with a chrono and a three-hander side by side.
